"Gracious Professionalism"
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is based on the sports model to create a sport of the mind. High school students interested in engineering, electrical, welding and many other fields come together as a team to create a robot which competes in a tournament. Each year the new tournament game is announced in early January and teams have six weeks to create their robot based on a uniform kit of parts. A competition that started with 28 teams 15 years ago has grown to the international level with over 11,000 teams and major sponsors such as GM.
FRC is more than just robots; teamwork, creative problem solving and professionalism are what this competition is really about. Founder Dean Kamen recognized the need to make science, math, engineering and teamwork exciting and to build relationships between schools and businesses in the community. Students are not left on their own to design and create their robot; they get to work with professionals in the field as well as their teachers.

Rebound Rumble
The Rebound RumbleSM robotics game is played between two Alliances of three teams each. Each Alliance competes by trying to score as many of the basketballs in the hoops as possible during the 2-minute and 15-second match. Balls scored in higher hoops score Alliances more points. Alliances are awarded bonus points if they are balanced on bridges at the end of the match. In matches where opponent Alliances work together to balance on the white bridge, all participating teams earn additional valuable seeding points.
